GOOD DAY RAIN

Puddle and clover(?) close-ups from empty beach parking lot today:

.
.
Favorable light wind, only two other surfers to the north and two to the south as far as I could see into the gray, watched rain drops land like silver sparks on emerald green water that tempered the wait for inconsistent fun sized sets... lucky.

NINE LIGHTS 5'5" QUAD (In the works #1)

.
Jeff Beck, of Nine Lights Surfboards, just got back from three weeks with the fam in the Islands. We got together last night and came up with a 5'5" quad outline for me.

The shaped, stringerless, 1lb. EPS core is now ready for "sandwiching" with balsa wood. I'll try to update with photos from the rest of the process if I'm able to get back in his bay over the next few days.

BEAVER TAIL

..
Note: It is not my intention to exploit a less "fortunate" man for petty entertainment. Homeboy's hair just happened to be the most interesting sight at the beach today.

DISTANT PLANETS IN THE SAND

While wind layed to waste any chance of today repeating yesterday's near perfection...

somewhere between the tidal shallows and tangled piles of sticks and feathers...

there was
magic to be reached in the sand...

THANKFUL

While there's obviously more important things to be concerned about, when it comes to surfing I do sometimes get a bit grumpy about crowded lineups and seasonal hoards. I guess I can add to the list of things I'm thankful for the fact that it never gets like these pics anywhere along the North American, West coast.

Photos of Korean beach scene passed along by "Far Off Friend". Some of the high angle long shots are so ridiculous that i almost start to wonder if there's some doctoring goin' on!?

PICKLED GREY DAY

Tyler Warren paid the North O.C. a visit this last Saturday on a 7'6" Liddle hull he borrowed from Graham of Megatrough. Was a pleasure to watch. Looks like Tyler is gonna have an art show at Shelter Surf Shop sometime the beginning of December. I'll post the details in the Happenings side column when i get 'em.

PSYCHEDELIC HAND-ME-DOWN

Met this guy Dallas this morning that had an old thruster handed down to him (complete w/ old bungee-cord-like leash) by his uncle Rollins who airbrushed it. These days his uncle is a tattoo artist that works out of Stone Cold Tattoo in Gunnison, Colorado.
