"He was definitely somebody overlooked in the scope of professional surfing or whatever lame bullshit that it is, but.... When everybody else would just paddle one way and sets were comin' that... shit... I don't even know how big, but just so big, like, the best guys in the world just curling and then Sion just being right there at the peak, and just straight into it... not even trippin" —NATHAN FLETCHER

"He literally wanted the world's biggest wave, and he would say that to you and look you dead in the eye and it was almost chilling" —DAVE WASSEL

"There's guys who charge that are just absolute assholes, and as a human I don't really have much respect for them. On the other hand, Si, his game out of the water was ten times what it was in the water. And... I have to say, I always viewed his relationship with his family as, like, a model for myself one day, how I'd want to raise a family.... You could tell he just really loved being a father.... He was a man amongst boys. To be perfectly honest, out here on the North Shore... there's a lot of boys out here. There's not a lot of real men who step up to responsibility.... He was a great family man and he charged harder than anyone." —MARK HEALEY

"I like to watch my friends get barreled, and that's pretty much my highlight, is watch my friends get barreled and that's what makes me want to get barreled too." —SION MILOSKY

this was inspiring and tough to watch at the same time. all I know is that the way his friends described him, Sion was someone to emulate. instead of 'be like Mike' it should be "be like Sion."
one thing stood out most of all - I have been one of those guys in the lineup complaining about family or marriage getting in the way - and I felt shame when Healey says that Sion never complained about being a father or husband.
we only get one chance and I feel like I need to give the best of me I can -if anything to honor those who have.
thanks for sharing this. I'm sure it was a difficult thing for you to do.
Wonderful tribute for Sion. Very inspiring, thank you for sharing, R.T. Aloha.
